Temples of Vellore:

Jalakandeshwara temple is much underrated due to tourist’s attraction towards the Golden temple in Vellore. The temple is built during the Vijayanagara periods in 1550 AD and is located in the Vellore fort surrounded by water, hence the name Jalakandeshwara (Jala means water). The temple is under the control of Archaeological survey of India (ASI).

The temple is built in Vijayanagara style of architecture; one of the most prominent architectural features are the giant Gopura (gateway tower) which is over 100ft in height and the mantapa with exquisitely carved stone pillars of dragons, horses and yalis (lion like creature). There is another enclosure for the temple with a smaller Gopura. The enclosure is surrounded by the long pillared corridors. After entering the second Gopura, is the main temple and the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) dedicated to Lord Shiva. Photography is prohibited after entering the second Gopura.

Golden temple

Lakshmi Narayani Golden temple at Vellore is gaining popularity to become one of the most popular temples in Tamil Nadu, mainly for its striking feature being built using real Gold.

It will typically take 2-3 hrs for a normal free entry, one has to walk through the entry point and walk for five mins to reach waiting halls. They will make you wait for at least 30 mins in one of these halls before they release you to walk further. If you pay 100 Rs one can skip these waiting rooms. Further past the waiting rooms, you've to walk for another 5-10 mins to reach the entrance area again, where you meet the special entrance ticket holders (250 Rs Seva ticket). From here one has to walk (including the seva ticket holders) through a long way across the star shaped walkway which surrounds the golden temple. Once you reach the temple there is another circular path around the golden temple. Here there are two lanes, Seva ticket holders get the lane nearest to the golden temple and others get the next lane. Finally after entering the golden temple, Seva ticket holders can sit for some time inside the mantapa and others will have to get the Darshan of goddess Lakshmi and leave.

The entire temple is gold plated both interiors and exteriors and is surrounded by water, which makes it look stunning. These amazing visuals are not to be missed and a must visit at-least once in a lifetime.

Micromax Canvas 2 A110 Hands on Review

Micromax Superfone Canvas 2 A110(Jet Black/Calm White): After using it for a week, I felt pretty good about my decision for going with a new brand like Micromax over the mighty Samsung Galaxy S Duos and Sony Tipo Dual. Particularly not sure about its reliability but the build quality looks pretty decent. Below are my ratings for the phone aka Phablet. Build Quality (8/10): The build quality was above my expectations keeping in mind of the price tag, from front it looks just like a Galaxy high end smartphone like SIII or Note II. It has a matte finished back cover which is good for protection towards scratches and there is a metal casing all around the phone, which adds up the beauty of the phone. One more advantage of this phone is it has a touch home button instead of a hard button as seen in iPhone and Galaxy phones. Camera (5/10): [8MP autofocus (Tap to Focus), dual flash, supports up to 3264x2448 pixels, Panorama] Don't fall for the specs as it is said...

Bird watching tour to Davanagere - Part I

Birding in Davanagere - Part I Water Birds: With not much expectations headed for bird watching in Davangere, but what turned out later was an extravaganza of our beloved winged friends. A colony of Black-winged Stilt There is a reason why I had less expectations, we usually hear from bird watchers in and around Bengaluru and have rarely heard of a city such as Davanagere for bird spotting. Winter is the best time for bird watching in Davanagere as the winged guests from far across the Himalayas visit here in search of food and tropical climate. Was expecting to spot the migratory bar headed goose and waders along with the resident Kingfishers, Munias, Weaver bird, and Coucal. Though couldn't witness some of them but ended up spotting over 50 species of birds. A little knowledge about these birds and a lots of patience can help spot many of these with a binocular or a camera with 250 mm lens. Compared to birds in Bengaluru, here the birds were very shy and not used to ...
