Explore Amsterdam by walk - I

Explore Amsterdam by walk

The next best thing to explore was by my sight and will, started another day early from the Bijlmer Arena.

The Grand palace

Bijlmer ArenA Poort:

About 20mins metro ride from Amsterdam central is another happening place Bijlmer ArenA popular for its Shopping and nightlife in Amsterdam Zuidoost. On to the west of the ArenA railway station is the ArenA Boulevard, Amsterdam ArenA stadium, Heineken Music Hall and Pathé ArenA cinema, Ziggo Dome. On to the east is Amsterdamse Poort, the largest shopping centre in Amsterdam.

Another popular building over here is the 'Sand Castle' in the Amsterdamse Poort, built in 1979-87 by Dutch architects Ton Alberts and Max van Huut in the style of organic architecture inspired by Rudolf Steiner. With a color of sand or bricks and supported by materials such as stone and wood, it has more of a natural touch without using rectangular shapes in the building.

De Gooyer windmill:

My next visit was to one of the popular windmill of Amsterdam. Another best way to explore the city is by catching one of the hop on hop off bus which starts from the stand in front of the Victoria Hotel.
Had a GVB day pass and 9292 android app installed on my smartphone, and caught a Tram from Central to the nearest windmill to Amsterdam central, De Gooyer windmill, which is also the tallest wooden mill in the Netherlands and a National Monument. It was always my desire to watch these windmills. Although Zaanse Schans is a must see for these traditional wooden windmills, due to unexpected rains I couldn’t make it.

Oosterdok:

From De Gooyer windmill back to Central station is the National Maritime Museum or the Het Scheepvaartmuseum, Arcam Museum and NEMO science center. From the corner of the road you get a panoramic view of all these three museums.
National Maritime museum has a fabulous courtyard roofing made of glass and is designed by Dok Architecten. Having not much enthusiast about the history museum and lack of leisure time, just walked out to get the sight of the ship model of East India Company.

Just adjacent to this is a museum dedicated to modern architecture – Arcam, which is definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in Architecture.

Arcam Museum

The road past this extends to the Science museum NEMO with a unique structure appearing as a half sunk ship. This incredible structure was built in 1997 and is designed by the famous Italian Architect Renzo Piano.

Micromax Canvas 2 A110 Hands on Review

Micromax Superfone Canvas 2 A110(Jet Black/Calm White): After using it for a week, I felt pretty good about my decision for going with a new brand like Micromax over the mighty Samsung Galaxy S Duos and Sony Tipo Dual. Particularly not sure about its reliability but the build quality looks pretty decent. Below are my ratings for the phone aka Phablet. Build Quality (8/10): The build quality was above my expectations keeping in mind of the price tag, from front it looks just like a Galaxy high end smartphone like SIII or Note II. It has a matte finished back cover which is good for protection towards scratches and there is a metal casing all around the phone, which adds up the beauty of the phone. One more advantage of this phone is it has a touch home button instead of a hard button as seen in iPhone and Galaxy phones. Camera (5/10): [8MP autofocus (Tap to Focus), dual flash, supports up to 3264x2448 pixels, Panorama] Don't fall for the specs as it is said...

Bird watching tour to Davanagere - Part I

Birding in Davanagere - Part I Water Birds: With not much expectations headed for bird watching in Davangere, but what turned out later was an extravaganza of our beloved winged friends. A colony of Black-winged Stilt There is a reason why I had less expectations, we usually hear from bird watchers in and around Bengaluru and have rarely heard of a city such as Davanagere for bird spotting. Winter is the best time for bird watching in Davanagere as the winged guests from far across the Himalayas visit here in search of food and tropical climate. Was expecting to spot the migratory bar headed goose and waders along with the resident Kingfishers, Munias, Weaver bird, and Coucal. Though couldn't witness some of them but ended up spotting over 50 species of birds. A little knowledge about these birds and a lots of patience can help spot many of these with a binocular or a camera with 250 mm lens. Compared to birds in Bengaluru, here the birds were very shy and not used to ...
